Ethan Slocock, a 2016 Dart Scholar, is currently finishing his A Levels at Bryanston in the United Kingdom; and participated in the past three Dart Scholar summer enrichment trips to Toronto, Canada; Oxford University and Clare College at Cambridge. Ethan is planning on a career in computer engineering and spent the past two summers working in the Dart Work-X summer programme with the IT team. Dominic Dyer, a 2017 William A. Dart Memorial University Scholarship recipient is in his third year at Colombia University where he is studying Economics. In addition to his coursework, Dominic is a member of the Columbia Lions track and field and cross-country teams, where he quickly made his mark, earning a top 50 place at the Ivy League Championships during his first year. Charlotte Hodkin, a 2018 Dart Scholar, is a William A. Dart Memorial University Scholarship recipient who started her second year at the University of Bath where she is studying Integrated Mechanical & Electrical Engineering. Before becoming a Dart Scholar, Charlotte was a 2018 recipient of the Dart Award for Excellence in STEM at graduation, for her achievement in science and mathematics subjects throughout her A-level studies. She also won top prize for her year at the Minds Inspired Mathematics Challenge in 2015 and 2018 respectively. Throughout high school, Charlotte maintained an impeccable academic record while also playing on her school netball team. Florence Allan, a 2016 Dart Scholar, is a William A. Dart Memorial University Scholarship recipient and she started her final year at the University of Bristol where is studying International Business Management. A talented sailor, having competed in the 2016 Olympics in Rio and the Central American and Caribbean Games, she also joined the University of Bristol’s sailing club where she currently serves as President. Drew Milgate, a 2013 Dart High School Scholar and a 2017 William A. Dart Memorial University Scholarship recipient has started his third year at the University of Cambridge where he is studying Engineering.  In addition to his coursework, Drew is part of the Cambridge University Eco Racing team where he is working with other students to design, build and race a solar powered automobile named Helia at the World Solar Challenge in Australia this October. The 2019 Dart Scholar Summer Enrichment trip took the high school scholars to Cambridge University in the United Kingdom where they completed a week-long tech course on artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and coding.

Diamond White, Michael Marzouca and Marcos Bertran, three local students with outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements, were named the Dart Scholars for 2019 in July.

Diamond of John Gray High School and Michael of St. Ignatius Catholic School are this year’s Dart High School Scholarship recipients while Marcos, a St. Ignatius Catholic School alumnus, is the William A. Dart Memorial University Scholarship 2019 recipient.

The three took time over their busy summer to answer a few questions for Camana Bay Times.

In 2015, Jade Wilkinson’s outstanding academic performance resulted in her receiving the Dart Scholar High School Scholarship. More than an accomplished student, Jade also has a passion for tennis, which led her to study at the renowned IMG Academy in Florida where she finished high school while elevating her tennis game. This experience helped her make the women’s varsity tennis team at Vassar College in New York where she started in August  2019. As a Dart Scholar, Jade has explored various work experience opportunities at Dart, which is helping her decide whether to study Maths and Statistics or International Business. Stephanie Gunby, a 2016 Dart Scholar, received the William A. Dart Memorial University Scholarship. Stephanie studies marine and freshwater biology at The University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. Over the past years Stephanie’s interests, spanning geography, environmental science and marine biology, have seen her involved in a wide array of projects and this summer, she is heading to the Huntsman Marine Science Centre in St. Andrews, New Brunswick to take part in a marine biology and oceanography field course through the university. The field course is a two-week research course where students conduct both group and individual projects. Stephanie’s project is an investigation of how the size of green sea urchins affects their preference for rock size and type.
