Are non-Caymanians considered for the Dart Scholarship?

Dart’s scholarship programme is a long-term investment in the Cayman Islands’ future leadership and we encourage all qualified Caymanians and Cayman Status holders to apply for it.

How will I know my application was received by Dart?

You will receive an email confirming receipt of your application within three business days of submitting it.

Is financial need considered in the scholarship selection process?

Dart scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence. You do not need to demonstrate financial need.

What progress reports are required to apply for the high school scholarship?

You must provide complete reports from the previous two years; however, only core subject areas (mathematics, English language, English literature, all sciences, foreign languages, history and geography) are considered.

  • You must submit progress reports for each term, including the year-end summary report.
  • Without a complete set of progress reports your application will not be considered.
  • Other achievements and awards: school, extracurricular and external to school should be included in your scholarship application package.

If I am awarded the scholarship do I need to change schools?

The choice of school is made solely by you (the scholar) and your family. There is no requirement to attend a particular school or move from your existing school. You may, however, change schools to complete AP, A-Level, UCCI Dual Entry and IB programmes of study.

Is it possible to apply for the scholarship a year early?

No, you cannot apply early. The high school scholarship application period is from early February until the closing date in mid-April of Grade 8 (Year 9), and the required academic reporting will not be available a year early.

How do I include community service and volunteerism on my application?

Details of your community service and volunteerism can be listed on the application form. If this is a significant amount of information, you can list it on a separate page and attach it to the back of the application.

Is there a Dart Scholarship specifically for: Advanced Placement (AP), A-Level, UCCI Dual Entry or International Baccalaureate (IB) studies?

Dart’s high school scholarship covers AP, A-Level, UCCI Dual Entry and IB programmes of study. There is not a stand-alone scholarship for them specifically.

The applicant is required to submit an essay as part of the scholarship application. Is there specific information I should include?

The purpose of the essay is to help the scholarship committee learn more about you by providing information in "your own words" about your future study plans and career aspirations.

If you live overseas are you eligible to apply for the Dart Scholarship?

You are eligible to apply for the scholarship if you have been ordinarily resident in the Cayman Islands for a minimum of four (4) years prior to applying. If your primary residence is in the Cayman Islands, you attend high school overseas, and live in the Cayman Islands when not attending school, you are eligible to apply.

What progress reports are required to apply for the university scholarship?

The William A. Dart Memorial Scholarship is an academic scholarship which takes into account academic achievement over the final years of high school. Since final A-Level and IB grade reports are not issued by the scholarship application deadline, you can submit predicted grades and then forward final grades when they are received. Any additional examination results such as SAT scores should be included in the application package.

Should I include reference letters with my application?

You need to provide a school principal’s reference and information for two character references. The character reference form can be downloaded from the website: LINK TO THE FORM. References should not be relatives and can be government officials, extracurricular leaders, teachers, church pastors and persons of a similar standing.

The application requires a personal statement. What specifically should I include in the essay?

The purpose of your personal statement is to help the scholarship committee learn more about you. It should be a brief statement in "your own words" describing your background, past work experience, service leadership in the community and plans to contribute to the betterment of the Cayman Islands.

Does Dart’s scholarship programme cover graduate studies?

Graduate study programmes are not considered at this time.

Do I need to be formally accepted by a university in order to apply for the scholarship?

If at the time of application for the scholarship you have not received a formal acceptance you can submit your conditional acceptance. The conditions for acceptance by the university should also be included.
